If you are interested in growing your own, why not enquire at your nearest allotment?  Most sites are already at full capacity but operate waiting lists.  Some sites are newer and still have available plots.

Rush Green Allotments & Gardens Association is a non profit organisation set up by local residents. The group aims to improve the local area for everyone to benefit for the local community of Rush Green, Romford. The project has begun by transforming around five acres of land into a nature reserve, seating area and allotments that can be used by both disabled and able bodied residents.
